Patrick Tarry was introduced to Ki-Aikido while a sophomore at Furman University. After graduating, he moved to Japan speaking only the Japanese he had learned in Aikido. He stayed in Japan for two and a half years, studying Aikido, teaching English, and eventually working in corporate Japan for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. He returned to Japan two years later for an internship with Nissan Motors as part of his MBA in International Business. After completing his MBA in 2001, he moved to Minnesota to work for Honeywell in Human Resources and joined the Minnesota Ki Society. He returned to his home state of North Carolina in 2011. Tarry sensei is an Assistant Lecturer and Authorized Assistant Examiner of Shinshin Toitsu Aikido. He holds the rank of Yondan (4th degree blackbelt) in Shinshin Toitsu Aikido and Chuden in Shinshin Toitsu Do (Ki Development).

Mayumi Case is the founder of Raleigh Ki Aikido. She grew up in Japan, but did not start her Aikido training in her native country. Her first introduction to Aikido was through a course offered at Scottsdale Community College in Scottsdale, Arizona, in 1995. She subsequently joined the Arizona Aikido Ki Society and continued training under Kirk Fowler sensei, 7th Dan. Case sensei is an Associate Lecturer and Authorized Assistant Examiner of Shinshin Toitsu Aikido. She holds the rank of Godan (5th degree blackbelt) in Shinshin Toitsu Aikido and Joden in Shinshin Toitsu Do (Ki-development).
